| Office, Retail,
San Francisco, CA
"I worked closely with Jerry Veverka during the design and construction of our renovation to 243 Kearny Street. The design program called for the conversion of existing office space to retail use at the ground floor of a 1928 downtown San Francisco building with an interesting classicized moderne facade. The challenge to Jerry and his colleagues was to create separate identities for the new retail space and the entrance lobby to the upper floor office space, while maintaining an overall cohesive appearance of the building. Complicating the process was the necessary integration of steel lateral braces into the new storefront. The resulting building solves the problem very successfully... The other aspect of the project was the personal nature of the services provided by the architects. Jerry was involved closely from day one in meeting at the site, through completion of the construction."
From a letter by Steven Lachman - Executive Vice President of Norris, Beggs, Simpson.
This building has unfortunately been subjected to "deferred maintenance" for several years.
